NO TOYS THIS CHRISTMAS

By Josie Whitehead

No Toys This Christmas

'I’m tired,' said poor old Santa Claus,
'And I’d like my night in bed.'
He yawned and yawned and yawned again
And this is what he said:

'A happy Christmas to you all.
     Enjoy your Christmas Day -
And I left you lots of toys last year
With which you all can play.'

And, then he gave another yawn,
     And snuggled down in bed.
So none of you will get your toys,
     But he’ll sleep well instead.

Ahhh!

Oh, come, come, come!  This story’s wrong!
We poets can tell  lies -
And, on Christmas morning, wait and see:

      You’ll get a NICE SURPRISE!
