RED RIDING WHO?

By Josie Whitehead

Red Riding Who?

Whenever I read story books,
I think it is a shame
That someone gave a character
     A really stupid name.

Red Riding Hood, for instance –
Well, what sort of name is that?
Who’d call their daughter by a name
     Of something like a hat?

I wonder what her teacher said
     The day she started school?
And did the children laugh at her
     For children can be cruel?

'Red Riding Hood?' the teacher cried:
      'That’s surely not your name?
Now come along, you silly girl,
I don’t have time for games!!'

So, tell me what your real name is:
    Blue Anorak?  Green Socks?
Well I think you won’t believe me,
     But my name is Goldilocks.
