NATIONAL POETRY DAY 2020
SUBJECT: V I S I O N
Others can visualize your mood and thoughts from your eyes as well as your mouth you know. Your eyes can light up your whole face when you're happy - and how do your eyes show your unhappiness? Something to discuss in class.
By Josie Whitehead
This is a wonderful performance poem - and please, as well as learning this by heart for your performance, remember to use your eyes in your performance too. Yes, use body language too. Try a verse each in groups. Put expression in your voice as well as your eyes also. I'm happy to do a skype visit, but let me know early.
Whilst tongues have lots of things to say,
The eyes convey thoughts too.
They’ll quickly show when someone's pleased
Or if they’re cross with you!
You’ll know when somebody is cross -
Well, just look at those eyes -
So when you hear an angry voice,
It won’t be a surprise.
All parents quickly recognize
When clearly you have lied.
That look of shame, we all know well,
You’ll never ever hide.
Your happiness is clear to see:
Your smile comes shining through
And when you laugh - oh then your eyes
Will always laugh with you!
So when you speak to other folk,
Remember, if you’re wise,
To reinforce the words you say
With a message from your eyes.
