Metre Gives Verse

It’s metre that helps you to write a fine verse - -

But rhyme without metre - well what can be worse?

It’s the metre that gives verse it’s get-up-and-go,

And the metre gives movement to poems you know.

Now it isn't the rhyme that's the problem at all;

It's the metre that drives everyone up the wall,

But you really should learn it. It’s not very hard

And with rhyme and with rhythm you’ll make a fine *bard.

So what metre is used in my poem today?

I will give you a clue for its name starts with ‘a’

Now come on, get thinking, it ends with a 'tic' -

It's not meant to fool you and isn't a trick!
