THE PRETENTIOUS PARROT

By Josie Whitehead

Pretentious Parrot (The)

The pretentious parrot, lustrous, sleek,
Is graced with an impressive beak.
Clothed in plumes of brilliant hues
He's born to show-off and amuse.

Well-known by his loud squawking call,
Designed to reach the ears of all,
He dines on fruit, on nuts and seeds
Which gladly meet his daily needs.

This lover of the warming sun
Is both intelligent and fun.
He imitates the human voice -
    But as a pet . . . . .  a noisy choice!
