THE PROMISE OF ETERNITY

By Josie Whitehead

Promise of Eternity (The)

A change takes place within a glade
As bluebells push up in the shade.
    Beneath the newly budded trees
    They swim in never-ending seas.

Their perfume fills the clear spring air,
The human nostril to ensnare.
    Their violet heads hang shyly down;
    On gusty winds they seem to frown.

How can we humans fail to see
The promise of eternity
    As the bluebells die but rise again
    And proudly smile through sun and rain?
