AN ARMADILLO
BOUGHT A PILLOW

By Josie Whitehead

Armadillo Bought a Pillow (An)

An armadillo bought a pillow

And his brother bought a bed,

His father bought a mattress

And his Mum, some sheets instead.

His granny bought the blankets

But his granddad knew quite well:

They’d wasted all their money:

     Armadillos sleep in shells.

Armadillo:  Armadillo is a Spanish word meaning 'little armoured one' and refers to the bony plates that cover the back, head, legs, and tail of most of these odd looking creatures. Armadillos are the only living mammals that wear such shells.
