THE CHEMISTRY LESSON

By Josie Whitehead

Chemistry Lesson (The)

'Please Mr Grainger,

     I think you ought to know - - - '

'Now less talking Jamie -

      Get on, you’re rather slow.'

'But please Mr Grainger,

     What I really want to say - - -'

'Now look here young Jamie,

      We’ll talk another day.'

'But Johnny’s mixing chemicals.

     I’ve told you this before.'

'And I’ve had enough from you.

      Go!  Stand outside the door.

'All you’ve done since break time

    Is trying to *harangue . . . '

But the teacher’s words were sadly lost

    In one almighty . . . . . .

* harangue:  lecture (someone) at length in an aggressive and critical manner.  ie he was just annoying his teacher.
