Happy Children Sledding in Snow

THE DAY THAT WINTER
TOOK ITS HOLD

By Josie Whitehead

Day That Winter Took Its Hold (The)

They shivered in the freezing cold
The day that winter took its hold.
Those chilly winds blew from the north
And sent their heavy snow clouds forth.

They drifted over woods and hills.
The winds sent out their icy chills -
And in the morning, spread with snow,
The woods and pastures seemed to glow.

For in the night, from far on high,
The snow had drifted from the sky
      And snowflakes coated fields about
Where children now can sledge and shout.

The snowmen soon were quickly made
As well-wrapped children laughed and played.
They soon forgot the freezing cold,
The day that winter took its hold.
