DYNAMIC DINOSAURS

By Josie Whitehead

Dynamic Dinosaurs

Huge dinosaurs lived on our earth
A long, long time ago -
But why they disappeared from earth
     Is something we don’t know.

Did an asteroid bump into Earth
And throw dust into space -
And did this mean our precious sun
Could not then show its face?

Well look up at the warming sun
That shines high in our sky
And tell yourself that without sun
Most life on earth would die.

Perhaps volcanoes caused the dust
That blocked our sun from sight
For they spew out volcanic ash
With all their power and might.

Then, there again an ice age could
     Have brought about their fate
By freezing water that they drank
     And killing things they ate.

Disease kills living things, we know,
     Both creatures large and small.
Oh, scientists have wracked their brains
     To know what did befall.

We only know that left on earth
     Are bones they’ve left behind,
So when you’re digging with your spade,
You don’t know what you’ll find.

Genetic science tells us much
     And stored within a bone
Are lots of things we understand
     Which were, before, unknown.

You’ll marvel at the size and shape
     Of the dynamic dinosaur
And want to learn so many facts
     That you never knew before.
