THE GREEN CROSS CODE

By Josie Whitehead

Green Cross Code (The)

Will you accompany me today?

Let’s learn the Green Cross Code.

It’s the trendy thing to study

If you want to cross that road.

Stop your fooling!  Do not talk

     And let nothing you disturb.

I think we’ve found a safe place here

So we’ll stop, back from the kerb.

Oooh, don’t step off that pavement yet!

     No!  Don’t dash out ahead

For doing such a stupid thing

     Could leave you somewhat dead!

You wait for the lights to turn green or for

the walking man to appear on the signals.

This is where your eyes come in,

     And other people’s too.

It could be that you see them well,

But can they see you too?

We’ll choose a place of safety

Where our vision is quite clear.

Now don’t you venture on that road

      If moving traffic’s near.

As well as eyes, you have two ears

To help you cross that road.

Did you STOP, LOOK and LISTEN?-

     Let’s apply the

        GREEN CROSS CODE.
