Homes

Your home might be a caravan

Or perhaps it is a tent.

Some people like to buy their home,

    Whilst others like to rent.

Your home could be a hay filled barn

     Or perhaps the salty sea.

You might prefer a cool, dark cave,

Or a nest high in a tree.

Your home could be beneath the soil,

     Or underneath a stone.

Some share their homes with families;

     Some like to live alone.

Who carry homes upon their backs?

Who sleep high in the trees?

Now write a list of lots more homes

To add to all of these.

Copyright on all my poems

Foxes dig dens in the ground, to raise their young, and store caches of food. Sometimes they inherit these dens, other times they will steal dens from other animals.

European Badger:
A sett or set is a badger's den. It usually consists of a network of tunnels and numerous entrances.

Exercise:      Get into small groups:  Write down the name of an animal, insect, fish, bird or human.  Then write down the correct name of their home.

Then you can have a quiz in your class:  You can either call out the name of the home or of the animal, insect etc who lives in it - - - and see who gets the correct answer.

Sometimes it seems that my study is my home when I'm typing a new poem for you.  Josie
