I KNOW A BEETLE

By Josie Whitehead

I Know a Beetle

I know a beetle,
    Who lives down a drain.
His coat's very shiny,
    But terribly plain.

When I take a bath,
    He comes up the pipe.
Together we wash,
    Together we wipe.

HELP WITH YOUR OWN POEM:

KS1 AND KS2 CHILDREN

It's a very good way to learn to write poetry if you use one poem as a template for another one.  You cannot copy the words, but you can copy the rhythm of the poem.  It is called "shadowing poetry".  Try shadowing this poem.  I have.  My poem is called "I Know a Spider."  eg: I know a hedgehog -
I know a tiger - I know a lion - I know a kitten.  Look for the name that has two syllables.  'dog?'  No.  puffin? - yes.  tortoise????? - This is how you learn to write poetry.  Josie
