I should have gone shopping, but the car wouldn’t start

So, instead of the shopping, I made a jam tart.

    I should have gone shopping, but it started to rain

    And you’ll know that those raindrops aren’t good for the brain.

 

I should have gone shopping, but I’m feeling quite tired

And a good cup of tea is the thing most desired.

     I should have gone shopping but wrote this instead

     And then, quite worn out, had a rest on my bed.

 

I should have gone shopping, but tomorrow will do

For think of that checkout!  There's such a long queue.

    I should have gone shopping for we’ve nothing to eat!!!

   Which means grab my jacket and I'm off down that street.
