JOSIE'S POEMS

Metaphor Poems

By Josie Whitehead

METAPHORS:  A metaphor is a comparison between two things that states one thing is another, in order help explain an idea or show hidden similarities. ... Metaphors are commonly used throughout all types of literature.  Listen, then read the poem below and discuss how I have used metaphors not only to embellish my descriptions but to make the definition of the noun much clearer.  Try some metaphors yourself.  See also:  METAPHORS, SIMILES etc etc

Night and Day - Metaphor Poem.jpg
Night and Day

The owl has the bright eyes of moonlight
And she searches the earth down below,
Whilst the cockerel has eyes of the sunrise
As he seeks the sun’s imminent glow.

The radiant kiss of the sunshine
     Replaces the darkness with light,
But the moon, with her long silver fingers,
     Awakens the creatures of night.
