THE ROUTE TO SCHOOL

By Josie Whitehead

Route to School (The)

It’s time to go to school today,

So, will you come with me?

I’ll take you on a different route.

    There’s something you should see.

A coach and horses waits for us

And a footman dressed in white.

Wait till my friends see me in this -

     My goodness, what a sight!

Today we’ll take the scenic route,

     Not go the usual way.

We’ll ride in style through Fairy Dell

       And see the fairies play.

Then, like the Queen, I’ll wave my hand,

And smile at all I meet,

But much too soon we will arrive

     Back down upon the street.

Just see the faces of my friends

    When I arrive in style!

The door will open, out I’ll get

And throw to all a smile.

The teacher too will be amazed,

     And think it’s quite bazaar.

But really, this is just a dream,

For I’m in Mum’s old car.
