STRAWBERRY DEAR
By Josie Whitehead

Strawberry Dear

Strawberry, dear, you must not fear,

As you sunbathe in the sun,

That humans want to gobble you.

No, that would not be fun.

Strawberry, dear, now dry that tear.

     Don’t hide beneath the straw.

Yes, children now are coming close,

     But you, they never saw.

Strawberry, dear, it’s very clear,

I’m wrong and you are right.

It’s surely you they’re hunting for.

They have you in their sight.

Strawberry dear – strawberry dear!

     But answer came there none,

And now there’s one less strawberry

     Enjoying summer’s sun.

(Hands up all who love strawberries!)
