SUMMER IS CALLING

By Josie Whitehead

Summer is calling.  There’s warmth in the air.

Summer is calling so Winter, beware!

Feel the sun on your face with warmth on your skin?

So open that door now and let Summer in!

Summer is calling.  The swallows are here

And the presence of swallows makes it very clear

That they’ve come to enjoy the warmth of our sun

And not only that, they’ve young who like fun.

The birds in my garden have young ones to feed

And they look to their Mummy with their urgent need.

A tasty small worm?  ‘Of course, oh yes, please!’

And down it goes quickly to meet their small needs.

I see through my windows the squirrels are here,

And young squirrels love fun with nothing to fear.

They’re playing together and chasing up trees.

They’re enjoying my birdseed.  I do try to please.

The leaves and the flowers are adorning the trees

And in summer’s warm sunshine, out come the bees.

Pink blossom gives trees such a pretty array

And the children play out on this summery day.

Summer is calling and the flowers have arrived.

And under earth’s blanket they all have survived.

The days are all lengthening, we’re getting more sun,

And with summer’s arrival, come on, let’s have fun!
