A WASP

By Josie Whitehead

Lesson PlanHERE

A wasp is a nuisance

    Who’ll land on your ham

And when it’s enjoyed this

      Will head for sweet jam.

You can race it or chase it

     Or drive it away –

But, out in the garden,

Do you think it will stay?

It will return via your window

    Or your back door instead,

But I hope it won’t snuggle

     Deep down in your bed.

If they’re frightened – oh dear –

They will call for their mates

And then you’ll find out

      You have made a mistake.

They’ll be angry, resentful

     And want to attack.

So let them out carefully -

But they’ll want to come back.

With their smart stripy jackets

And their two useful wings –

Those wasps are amazing

     And are cheeky small things.
