IF I WERE A LION

By Josie Whitehead

LESSON PLAN AND IDEAS FOR PERFORMING:   HERE
If I Were a Lion

If I were a lion, a big bad lion,
     With an impressive mighty roar,
I’d have no care as to who was there
Or who hid behind their door.

If I were a lion and the king of beasts,
I’d ferociously guard my *pride -
And all who heard my roaring voice
Would run with fear and hide.

If I were a lion I’d wear a mane
To protect me when I fight -
And all my wives would bring me food
From kills made late at night.

If I were a lion, oh, if I were a lion - - -
     But I’m only a human child -
And when I pretended that I was a lion
     Well, my Daddy simply smiled.

* Pride of lions: A pride is a group of lions that live together. The members of a pride spend days in several scattered groups that meet to hunt or share a meal. Each pride has its own territory that it defends, ranging from 20 square km (8 square miles) if food is abundant to 400 square km (around 150 square miles) if food is sparse.
