JOSIE'S POEMS

Teen-Friendly Poems

LIKE FLEDGLING BIRDS
WE LEAVE OUR NESTS

By Josie Whitehead

Like fledgling birds we leave our nests

     To face the world beyond.

On wings of hope we take our leave;

       And with that call respond.

Like fledgling birds we look ahead

     For we’re almost adult now.

Our parents know we have that urge

     And, yes, they’ll both allow.

Like fledgling birds we stretch our wings

Though we’ve still more things to learn,

But, with our adult life ahead,

      We've money we must earn.

On wings of hope we'll take our chance -

But go carefully as we fly.

The world’s out there to welcome us:

      Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye.
