Swan

THE MAGIC COAT

By Josie Whitehead

Magic Coat (The)

Something was lying upon the ground

But what on earth do you think I'd found?

     Somebody's dirty, scruffy old coat

And beside it I also found a note.

'This coat is magic.  You must try it on

And the magic will turn you into a swan.'

I really thought it was all a joke.

Change to a swan when you wear a coat?

But should I or shouldn't I?  I just didn't know.

I’ll first throw it over that tatty black crow.

The coat flew through the air and then over him.

He flew in the lake and started to swim.

The coat dropped in the water and what a surprise!

Now a swan was swimming before my eyes -

I looked at the other swans.  What had they been?

Perhaps tigers, or monkeys or even a queen!

Goodbye lovely swan, goodbye poor old coat.

You can stay in the water and there you can float.

Believe in magic?  Well, yes, I do now!

Hands up if you'd like to change into a cow.
