Cook

MY DREAM

By Josie Whitehead

My Dream

Alone, in the midst of a dream I stand,
Ingredients on table, spoon in my hand;

Soul-deep in my kitchen, in a frightful mess,
   Tearfully fighting off strain and stress -

And spirits of fear hover overhead
As I toss and turn fitfully in my bed.
   Locked in that magical world of sleep
   Is a cupboard where all my fears I keep.

* Inspired by Rabindranath Tagore's poem: 'Song of a Dream'.

If I ever have a nightmare, which seldom happens, it is always being in the kitchen getting into a state because guests have arrived and the meal I'm cooking has gone wrong.  In fact I only cook simple but good meals and they haven't gone wrong, so feel happy about coming if you get an invite!
