ON THE ROAD ALONE

By Josie Whitehead

Written in *iambic pentameter, ie 5 iambic feet per line
On the Road Alone

There comes a time in life for everyone

     When empty paths of life wind clear ahead.

Bereft of friendship, warmth and human love,

     This road, most people view with utmost dread.

Yet most have traversed down this empty track.

     In pain, in sadness - burdens hard to bear;

Weighed down by bitterness and inward grief

     And felt alone - no friend their pain to share.

Now see the sunshine bursting through the clouds

     To light the world and lift your inner gloom.

Around the bend the birds will sing again,

     And flowers of happiness will burst in bloom.
