JOSIE'S POEMS

Autumn Poems

By Josie Whitehead

SEASON OF COLOUR
AND CELEBRATION

By Josie Whitehead

    Pavements lined with golden leaves

Blown from trees by autumn *thieves.

         Ripened fruit – delicious, sweet

And ready for us all to eat.

For children now it’s school again,

So, raincoats on.  Is that the rain?

Are you prepared for this school year?

Come on, there’s nothing much to fear!

See children dressed in such strange gear!

Ah yes, for Halloween is here.

Witches, ghosts and . . . pumpkin pie!

Why not?  Come on and let us try.

    Lengthening nights and shortening days.

Bonfires bring us warmth and blaze.

         Fireworks light November skies

With colours to delight our eyes.

Now Christmas quickly stirs the mind:

We've cards and Christmas gifts to find.

So with autumn gone and Christmas here

Let's welcome in that brand new year.
