Truth

I searched through every cupboard shelf -
     The refrigerator too,
But what I looked for wasn’t there:
     Oh just what should I do?  

   

I then searched underneath the chairs:
      I’d surely find it there,

But, search and search and search again:
     But no, not anywhere.

​

I  hunted through my coat pockets, 
   Then looked inside my car.
Perhaps you know just where I’ll find
   My lovely chocolate bar.

​

I knew my dog was not a thief
  And my cat was not, that’s true:
But then I heard the sound of feet . . . .
   Oh, surely it’s not YOU?

​

But what is that all round your mouth?
    The truth is out for sure,
For you scoffed the little treat I’d bought,

   Then crept back here for more!

​
