WORDS IN A POEM
By Josie Whitehead

No picture can ensnare the heart
As poetry on a page.
Words fly with joy across a room
Like a bird, freed from its cage.
A poem can glide on outstretched wings,
With words that bring delight -
And its imagery and rhythmic sounds,
Convey sweetness and light.
A poem can mend a broken heart
With words that soothe and heal,
Or those words can strike and cause distress,
With blades of cutting steel.
You’ll find a poem upon a screen
Or page of treasured book –
And my advice is: ‘Read those words:
Find time to take a look!’
