WORDS IN A POEM

By Josie Whitehead

Words in a Poem

No picture can ensnare the heart

     As poetry on a page.

Words fly with joy across a *room

Like a bird, freed from its cage.

A poem can glide on outstretched wings,

With words that bring delight -

And its imagery and rhythmic sounds,

     Convey sweetness and light.

A poem can mend a broken heart

With words that soothe and heal,

Or words can strike and cause distress,

    With blades of cutting steel.

You’ll find a poem upon a screen

Or page of treasured book –

And my advice is: "Read those words:

Find time to take a look!"

'Words fly with joy across a room':  Mine fly (hopefully with joy) across the world via the internet.  I'm told by Google that they go into 188 countries of the world.  Please let others know of these wonderful poems - and don't forget I fly across the world via Microsoft Teams or Zoom etc to children's classrooms.
