PERHAPS WE'LL SEE THAT

CHRISTMAS STAR

By Josie Whitehead

Upon this cold December day

With cloud-drift colour - pink and grey -

Blush-ripples kiss the lake beyond -

As if touched by a fairy wand.

In fading light the ducks and drakes

Swim back and forth across the lake.

The rain and wind have gone to rest

With peace and quiet a welcome guest.

Within our lives of constant din

It’s sweet to let some quietness in:

To find a spot where peace can reign -

Somewhere to let life’s stresses drain.

Trees, stripped of leaves, reach to the clouds

And here, far from the Christmas crowds,

The cards arrive from friends afar

And perhaps we’ll see that Christmas star.

Copyright on all my poems

Seeing a star at Christmas time reminds us of the biblical Christmas story. However, even those who don’t celebrate Christmas understand that a bright star in the night sky is a symbol of the hope and expectation of new life during the darkest part of the year.     Josie
