JOSIE'S POEMS
Bird Poems for Children
By Josie Whitehead
This is very much a Performance Poem

Once there was a little duck -
Quackers was her name -
But Quackers tapped on people's doors
And always said the same:
Are you ready?
‘Quack quack quack quack quack quack quack!’
Yes, this is what I need': - - - - -
And: ‘Quack quack quack,’ and ‘quack,’ again -
‘I want some tasty seed.’
Some people liked the hungry duck
Who tapped upon their door -
And so they threw out lots of seed.
But Quackers asked for more:
Are you ready?
‘Quack quack quack quack quack quack quack!'
Yes, this is what I need': - - - - -
And: ‘Quack quack quack,’ and ‘quack’ again -
‘I want some tasty seed.’
Well, everyone became annoyed
But just what could they do?
And another thing they didn't like
Was lots of Quacker's poo.
Are you ready?
‘Quack quack quack quack quack quack quack!’
'Yes, this is what I need': - - - - -
And: ‘Quack quack quack,’ and ‘quack’ again -
‘I want some tasty seed.’
A big black cat heard all this noise
And peeped around the house,
And then he crept towards the duck,
As quietly as a mouse.
But Quackers spotted this black cat
And what did Quackers do?
She stopped her quacking right away
And quickly off she flew.
But tell me where did Quackers fly?
Perhaps it's what you fear!
For if she comes to visit you
Then his is what you'll hear:
Are you ready?
‘Quack quack quack quack quack quack quack,’
Yes, this is what I need' - - - - -
And: ‘Quack quack quack,’ and ‘quack’ again -
‘I want some tasty seed!'

You can buy special bird seed at your local supermarket for all birds, and ducks love sunflower seeds in particular. Don't give them bread as it is not good for any birds. Josie
